Now Is The Time to Give

In an earlier post our $5000 Challenge was announced. We are currently more than half way through the time set to meet this challenge (Feb 1 thru April 30).  As of today the donations we have gotten do not  match or reflect the usual generosity of our donors.

We recently were made aware of a problem we had with our online donation link.  That problem has now been corrected and is now working.  If you tried to make a donation by using that link, we are sorry for any problems it may have caused you and hope you will either try again or mail your donation directly to us.

As an organization dedicated to helping  needy  families in our area we must depend on  donations from our supporters.  Now, during the Challenge,  is a great time to give.

Spring Events

It is now April and Hope is well into the $5000 Challenge.  We wish to thank all of our donors who have already helped us toward our goal and wish to encourage those who plan on donating to do so before the April 30th deadline.  Remember the value of your donation now is matched by the challenge monies, giving a bigger boost to our cause.

Yard Sale 7.13[1]

image_1Our 1st yard sale of the season will be the first weekend in May (May 1 & 2).  We already have a collection of fine items to sell, but we are still accepting donations.  As always our sale is a “name your price ” sale, any reasonable offer is accepted and all proceeds from the sale goes toward helping our clients.

Birthday Boxes

IMG_6885Each year the Freshmen at Ursuline Academy choose a project as part of their orientation into community service. This year’s group made birthday boxes.  They are boxes themed to 7-12 yr. olds and contain the necessities for a birthday celebration, ie., cake mix, party hats, wrapping paper and favors. They are distributed by special request of the families who would not otherwise be able to celebrate a child’s birthday.IMG_6882

Here are the pictures of the girls who delivered the birthday boxes and stayed to volunteer on two Wednesdays, one in February and one in March.

New Employee

Let me introduce you to our new employee, George Reiley.

George is a life long resident of Ohio and is currently living with his wife, Sandra, in Westboro, Ohio.

The Reiley’s have a combined family of 8 children.  The youngest, and only one still at home is a senior in high school.  This will change next fall as she will be attending Wright State University.

Before coming to work part time at Hope, George retired as a tool room machinist.  His work history is varied as he has had employment as a crane operator,  auto mechanic, home remodeler, millwright and tree trimmer.  He attributes his “jack of all trades” abilities to the fact that he has no fear of trying any task.

George and Sandy are both very active members of their church. He has served as a member on the board of Trustee and as an advisor to the board.  She has an active role every year in the Christmas pageant, and as a result he does most of the carpentry work that is needed. He has had experience in youth group activities and enjoys spending time with people

Report on Two Events and an Invitation

The 2014 Feinstein Challenge ended May 1. There was a total of 45,574 lbs. of food collected.  The cash donation for this year was $64,900.  The amount of the award given to Hope from the Feinstein Foundation will depends on our % of the total donations made to all the participating organizations.  There will be a report of that amount in our next newsletter.

On May 2 & 3 we had the first of the three scheduled yard sales for 2014.  The weather co-operated by not raining and the shoppers were steady.  The sale brought in $859.50.   The next yard sale will be July 11 & 12.  The last yard sale for this year will be Sept. 5 & 6.  Plan on attending one or both of these events.

An invitation to the Volunteer/Staff Luncheon will be mailed soon.  Save the date, June 14th.  The luncheon is hosted by the Hope Emergency Board and is held  from 12 noon until 2 PM.  Don’t forget to call  (937-364-1055) to let us know if you will be able to attend.

Train Set Raffle

From time to time we receive donations that fall into unusual catagories.  A few months ago we received such a donation. It is a complete, never used train set.  We decided that the best way to give people a chance to own this fine set was to hold a raffle.

DESCRIPTION:  Hawthorne Village Confederate Express Train. tain

A train set containing 14 pieces (plus track).

The raffle tickets are modestly priced at $1 per chance or 6 chances for $5. The raffle has started and will continue until the reserve is matched.

Raffle tickets can be obtained by clicking here and printing a sheet of tickets.  Please fill out, clip, and return with your check or money order to: Hope Emergency, PO Box 214, Fayetteville, OH 451 18. If you need additional tickets, please feel to print more than one page.

1st Yard Sale for 2014

The first yard sale for 2014 will be held on May 2 and 3 from 9 – 3 each day.  All “sales” are priced by you and on a “donation” basis.  Proceeds from the donations received will be used for the benefit of the Hope Emergency Food Pantry which serves Brown, Highland, Clinton and Adams counties.

Plan to spend part of your Friday or Saturday looking thru the new and never used items we have to offer such as purses and home decorations.  Your interests may be more toward  some collectables like wicker rocking chairs or a wooden wardrobe.  We have both for  your shopping pleasure.  Most items will be indoors so weather will not  hamper your ability to shop.

The sale is held at the Hope Emergency Program facilities at 5333 Kernan Road.  For more information or direction call 937-364-1055 on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, 9am – 2:30pm
